Her  Story

Growing up in Cambridge, Massachusetts during the 1940’s, Donna came to realize she had been blessed with her mother’s knack for the written word and her father’s boundless compassion.

Her fascination with the natural world was born of a traveling game she and her father played guessing which wild critters lived in varying regions of New England.

As an adult, she earned a master’s in psychiatric social work and developed a flourishing private practice in the rural suburb of Weston, Massachusetts.

As a result of her therapeutic work with children and families, she received an invitation to read a paper about her practice to a United Nations assembly in Vienna

Although her home address has changed over the years, her private practice has remained a successful cornerstone in her life.

After moving to Cape Cod in 1991, she was able to indulge her interests further, chronicling the comings and goings of the 30-plus species of birds that would regularly visit her feeders, and becoming serious about writing poetry in the late 90’s.

Since then, her poems have been published in an array of literary journals, including Willow Springs, Blue Line Journal, Harper, Off the Coast, The Cape Cod Poetry Review, Written River, Glassworks, and others.

Her collection, Africa is the Mother who Lies in the Grass, inspired by her travels in Tanzania, received the best self-published poetry award from Writer’s Digest in 2015.

Her second collection of poems, Thunder Moon, received similar acclaim after being published by Finishing Line Press in 2018. During her time in Cape Cod, she developed a large following and was often featured at local poetry readings and club gatherings.

Donna now resides in Westwood, California, close to her elder son and his family in Venice Beach, while her younger son and his family split their time between Coral Gables Florida, and Telluride Colorado.

She remains passionate about writing and nature and is thrilled by the opportunity to further share her passions with others by virtue of this website.
